""NLRB General Counsel Ronald Meisburg to Join Proskauer, Bolstering Renowned Labor Practice
June 2, 2010 (New York, NY and Washington, DC) – Ronald Meisburg, the third longest-serving general counsel of the National Labor Relations Board since 1947, and a former NLRB member, will join Proskauer as a Partner in the global law firm’s Labor & Employment Law Department, strengthening its renowned capabilities at a time when labor-management matters are increasing nationwide. He will practice out of the firm’s Washington, DC and New York offices.
Proskauer Chairman Allen I. Fagin said: “As a nationally recognized labor law authority, Ron strengthens our capabilities even further, and will provide our clients, particularly those operating in a unionized environment, the benefit of his unique background, experience and insight.”
The announcement that Mr. Meisburg will join the firm follows Proskauer’s recent addition of former New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority Chief Labor Negotiator and executive Gary J. Dellaverson as Special Counsel in the firm’s labor practice.
According to Paul Salvatore, co-Chair of Proskauer’s Labor & Employment Law Department, Mr. Meisburg’s addition underscores Proskauer’s unique capabilities representing management in the labor relations arena.
“Ron has spent almost 25 years in private practice in addition to his distinguished NLRB service, giving him a unique background of experience and credibility with government agencies, the labor bar, unions and management,” said Mr. Salvatore. “We expect the Obama NLRB to play an activist role, making Ron’s addition invaluable in our ability to serve clients.”
Mr. Meisburg has been the NLRB’s General Counsel since 2006, and before that he was a member of the NLRB. In private practice, he advised clients in connection with issues arising under federal labor and employment law and collective bargaining agreements; served as labor counsel in complex business transactions; assisted clients in collective bargaining, grievance and arbitration cases; and represented clients in matters before federal labor and employment agencies, and federal trial and appellate courts. He began his career serving in the Office of the Solicitor of the U.S. Department of Labor.
A Fellow of the College of Labor & Employment Lawyers, Mr. Meisburg is a graduate of Carson-Newman College and earned a law degree from the University of Louisville’s Louis D. Brandeis School of Law.
Consistently ranked in the top tier by Chambers USA and called “the 800-pound gorilla of labor relations” and “perhaps the most outstanding labor law firm in the country” by US Legal 500, Proskauer’s lawyers are recognized across the board as having a stellar reputation for labor matters and being among the best practitioners in the field. In addition to representing the National Football League, National Basketball Association, Major League Baseball and the National Hockey League in their ongoing, high-profile collective bargaining negotiations, Proskauer recently advised the Realty Advisory Board, which represents New York City’s building owners, in its contract negotiations with the city’s more than 30,000 apartment building workers, one of many such successful representations of management across the country.
